Shakespeare lives on

Shakespeare

This year is the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. To commemorate our Drama students have seen performances of two of the Bard’s plays. In March it was the tragedy Othello at USQ. Students were bedazzled by the out-there costuming and elaborate staging.  They later met with members of the cast for some fan photos.

In May the Queensland Theatre Company presented the comedy, Much Ado About Nothing at QPAC. It was a slick production followed by an equally entertaining Q & A. For some students there was much ado about the clever use of the revolving stage. Sadly, we will not have one installed in the Drama room before it’s time to present our own Shakespeare monologues.  But remember All the world’s a stage….

At the Artworx Shakespeare festival at USQ Drama students participated in a physical theatre workshop. It was many of our students’ first experience with physical theatre. The facilitator explained that once we entered the rehearsal room it was a non-verbal classroom. This meant that no one spoke, including the facilitator, for the next ninety minutes. This was many of our students’ first experience not talking for ninety minutes and the results… We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
