Certificate II in Public Safety

8/08/2014

By Amy Henderson, student.

Certificate II in Public Safety (fire fighting operations) specialises in teaching students how to become a rural fire fighter. It is an absolutely brilliant course to do. Throughout the course students learn what to do with preparing for a fire, what to do during a fire and how to react if they’re faced with a bad situation in the middle of a bush fire. Before any practical work is carried out the students do lots of reading of their notes and listen to presentations so they know in theory how everything associated with being a rural fire fighter works. Then they are put to the test doing practical work and join their local Queensland Rural Fire Brigade. Rural volunteer fire fighters come and help teach the students how to burn, create fire breaks using different methods, put fires out using different method, how to operate all facilities associated with the truck and many more skills.

Overall the Certificate II in Public Safety is a great course and gives students lots of skills not only associated with being a fire fighter but also life skills. I recommend this course to anyone who is willing to help people and doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty. It is a very valuable and rewarding course to do.
