A big welcome to our new teachers

6/02/2015
New teachers ready to sow the seeds of knowledge in our students minds.

As well as welcoming 115 Year 7 and 106 Year 8 students to Stanthorpe State High School, we give a big warm welcome to our new teachers.

Here is a little about each of them –

Lydia Barker

This is my first year teaching after graduating from University of Southern Queensland. Throughout the year I will be teaching Health and Physical Education, Science and Agricultural Science. Having lived in Stanthorpe for most of my life I am really grateful for being able to stay in the community and I look forward to many new adventures in the Stanthorpe State High School community.

Stacie Colman

I have been teaching for 10 years – my subjects are Maths, Science and Physics. I grew up on a cropping farm near Dalby and my first teaching position was in Toowoomba. Most recently I have taught for 6 years on the Gold Coast. I am excited about working with students from the country again.

Karen Petrie

I began my teaching career in 2005 as a Primary School PE teacher in several Primary Schools across Brisbane. I then spent the next 7 years at Acacia Ridge State School doing general classroom teaching. In 2012 I was transferred to Wallangarra State School after returning from maternity leave from having my three lovely children. In 2015 I was then transferred to Stanthorpe State High School where I have taken on the position in the Junior Secondary School. I am currently teaching HPE, Agriculture Science, Food Science and Creative Arts. I am enjoying the change and challenge from the “little kids” to the “big kids”!

Cheryl Davies

I have been teaching for 30 years as an English/ Drama teacher with Education Queensland. Recently from Brisbane I have been drawn to Stanthorpe with my husband because of the close knit community and the cooler weather! I am looking forward to teaching at Stanthorpe State High School and being an active member of the community.

Chloe Trimm

I am teaching Biology, English Communication, Junior Science, Junior Math, and Humanities at Stanthorpe State High School. After spending my first year teaching at an all-girls Aboriginal College in rural Victoria, I join Stanthorpe State High School for my second year of teaching.

Cole Harris

I am a first year teacher at Stanthorpe State High School. I graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast last year, and after completing my final prac at Stanthorpe State High School I was excited to receive an offer to teach there. I accepted instantly, and moved from the Sunshine Coast to come and join the fantastic community of Stanthorpe and be a part of the Junior school. I've had to retire my surfboard to move out here, but the enjoyment of being able to teach at Stanthorpe State High School and the sporting communities will be more than enough to make up for it!"

Stephen Bagnall

I have been teaching for 8 years, the last couple at Texas P-10 State School before that at schools in the Gympie area. My teaching areas are Industrial Technology and Design and Junior Maths and Science.

Kristina (Krissy) Day

I have been teaching for ten years. My previous school was in Bamaga at the tip of Cape York. My teaching areas are English and Humanities. I have moved with my husband and two daughters and we are loving the Stanthorpe community.

Simon Hamlet

A recent teaching graduate from USQ, I have come to Stanthorpe after one term teaching at Warwick SHS.  I have been a research technician at the Hermitage Research Facility for the past eight years and come to the school with a science focus, after having been heavily involved in the Hermitage Schools Plant Science Competition.
